Every fall our church has a ladies craft swap. Each lady brings 8 crafts or baked goods to swap with everyone else. We lay our goodies out on the table and when someone says “Go”, we all run around like crazy ladies, writing our names down on lists for the crafts we’d like to take home with us.
Last year I made micro-crochet earrings, which were a big hit. This year I decided to be a bit more festive and make some Christmas ornaments. Two of my daughters are baking some goodies, and the other one is making some really cute candles. Every year there are so many cute crafts and yummy treats and I can’t wait to see what everyone else comes up with.
How to Make Crochet Christmas Tree Ornaments
Each of the packages I am swapping include one granny square Christmas tree and two star ornaments. I made the granny square Christmas trees from a picture I saw on Pinterest. The process was pretty simple. I crocheted a granny square (follow this tutorial to learn how!) to the size I wanted my trees to be. Then I folded the square to make a triangular shape and sewed the back together so it would hold shape. Next I hot glued a cute little gold star button on the top of the tree.
I added a cinnamon stick trunk to the bottom, securing it with a couple dabs of hot glue. Next, I used some rope twine or jute cord (I found mine at Hobby Lobby in the Christmas section) to make a tiny bow for the star (hot glued in place), wrapped the ‘trunk’ with a bit of it (securing it with hot glue) and then added some at the top to make a hanger.

How to Make Crochet Christmas Stars
To make the stars, I followed the . This is the same pattern I’ve used to make micro-crochet star earrings. It is quick to work up and really easy to make. The stars come out great every time.

Once I had finished crocheting the stars, I dipped them in a glue/water mixture. I used 1 part white liquid glue and diluted it with 5 parts water. So, if you have 1 tbsp of glue, you will add it to 5 tbsp of water. After dipping each star into the glue mixture, I then lay them out flat on a folded bath towel to dry. This holds them in place and keeps the arms of the star from rolling up. After they were almost dry, I found a place to hang them to finish drying.
