Every fall, our church hosts a ladies craft swap. I love to crochet and look forward to making something to share with my friends. Last year I made some micro-crochet earrings, and this year I decided to make some Christmas ornaments.
I chose to make one Christmas tree and two Christmas star ornaments per person. The star pattern is super easy to make and works up so quick. I’d like to share it with you today!
What do I need?
To make my Christmas star ornaments I used
- Size 4 medium yarn
- Size H/5 mm crochet hook
- Yarn needle
- Scissors
- Small jar
- White school glue
- Jute cord
Easy Crochet Star Pattern
Stitches used (in American crochet terms)
- Chain (ch)
- Double Crochet (dc)
- Half Double Crochet (hdc)
- Single Crochet (sc)
- Treble Crochet (trc)
- Slip Stitch (sl st)
Round 1: Start with a magic circle. Chain 3 (counts as first double crochet), 14 dc into magic circle. Pull circle closed. Sl st to join.(15)
Round 2: *Chain 5. Sc into first stitch from hook. Hdc into next stitch. Dc into next stitch. Trc into last stitch. Skip 2 dc and sl st into third dc.
Repeat from * 5 times to make 5 star points. Finish off. Weave in ends.

Block the stars and turn them into ornaments
After you have your stars crocheted, you will want to block them so they hold their shape. I like to mix 1 part white school glue to 5 parts water for blocking. I add the glue and water to a little jar, put on a lid and give it a really good shake.
Dip each star into the glue mixture and squeeze until soaked. Take it out of the water, squeeze out any excess and lay flat to dry on a towel.
Once they are just about dry, I take a bit of jute cord (ribbon would be really cute too!) and make a hanger for my stars. Then I hang them somewhere so they can finish drying.

These stars are so cute!! They make perfect Christmas ornaments, or cute little garlands for every holiday.
