Easy Focaccia Bread

This classic Italian flatbread is crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. It’s great to make as a quick side dish or even as a snack dipped in olive oil and balsamic vinegar.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup warm water
  • 3 tsp sugar
  • 2.25 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1/3 cup olive oil
  • 3 cups flour all purpose or fresh ground all work well
  • 1 tsp salt

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F
  2. In a stand mixer bowl (or a large mixing bowl) combine the warm water, sugar and yeast. Stir to combine and let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  3. Once the yeast is foamy, add the olive oil, flour and salt.
  4. Mix for 5-10 minutes until the dough is smooth and pliable.
  5. Cover with a towel and let sit for 20-30 minutes for the quick version, or 1-2 hours if you aren't in a hurry.
  6. Once the dough has doubled in size, spread or roll it out to 1/2 inch thickness onto a greased baking pan.
  7. Using your fingers, poke holes all over the top of the dough to make the dimples.
  8. Drizzle with olive oil or melted butter and sprinkle on the toppings of your choice. We use garlic salt, but rosemary and salt would be great as well! I also sprinkled a bit of shredded cheese over the top.
  9. Bake the bread for 20-25 minutes.
  10. Cool for 5-10 minutes before cutting and enjoy!
