Today I’m showing you all of the elementary homeschool curriculum I’m using with my 2nd, 4th and 5th graders for this upcoming school year!

We have always homeschooled our children family style. So, first up for my elementary homeschool curriculum picks is our family subjects!
Bible
For Bible this year we will be memorizing the verses listed in Adventures from My Father’s World. We will also begin the year reading God’s Story from Masterbooks along with Jesus, Strong and Kind by Sinclair Ferguson. When we finish reading and discussing these 2 books, we will move on to something else, but I haven’t decided what yet.

History and Science

For history this year we are using Adventures from My Father’s World, which is a year long overview of American history. I have used this curriculum before, 12 years ago, so mine is a little different then the version available online today. I loved it so much the first time I used it that I couldn’t ever part with it and decided to use it again this year. Because it is technically a 2nd grade curriculum and I have a 4th and 5th grader, I will be beefing it up just a bit. Nothing too crazy though.

For science we will begin the year with a bird study… I think anyway. I haven’t quite decided yet. I thought I had my mind made up but recently looked at Adventures on Planet Earth from Masterbooks. It looks so amazing and I’m considering printing off the first week from the sample and trying it out before I decided to purchase. I’ve never been great about teaching science and I would love to find a curriculum that is simple to teach yet giving my kids the basic knowledge they need.

Language Arts
I have 3 kids who are elementary age. A 2nd grader, 4th grader and a 5th grader. They will each be using Language Lessons for a Living Education from Masterbooks on their own levels. Along with that they will be using level 3 handwriting from The Good and The Beautiful. My 4th grader will also be using Dyslexia Games Series B from The Thinking Tree. Along with all of this they will each be doing some independent reading every day, either by themselves if able, or reading aloud to me.

Math
For math we are doing something different this year. I have always used a workbook style math and for the last several years that has been Math Lessons for a Living Education from Masterbooks. This year we are switching it up and will be using CTC Math online. We have dabbled with this a little already and I really like it! The kids do too. It keeps track of each child’s progress and grades. I can set the grade I want them to achieve before moving on and if they don’t achieve that grade, the are required to re-do the lesson. At a glance I can see when they finished their last lesson and what grade they are at. It has made math so much more simple for this large family mom who has a hard time grading worksheets!

Co-op
My kids also participate in a homeschool co-op at our church. For the year the 4th and 5th grade students will have a U.S. Geography and History class, Government, P.E. and IEW Outlines. The 2nd grader will enjoy Story Time using Five in a Row (I get to teach!), P.E. and Anatomy.

The year promises to be a full one and I am so excited for the privilege to teach my children. Let me know in the comments below what you are using for elementary this year in your own homeschool!
