When I was a teenager, I could eat a lot of food. Now that I have teens of my own, I understand why my mom always said that we were going to eat her out of house and home! Since breakfast is the most important meal of the day, healthy breakfast options are important for your growing kiddos. Here are 5 of our favorite healthy breakfast ideas for teens.

Oatmeal
One of our best breakfast ideas for teens is oatmeal. It is full of fiber, healthy carbs that are easy on blood sugar and antioxidants. Oatmeal can be made so many different ways. At our house we like baked oatmeal the best. You can also make a big pot of oatmeal and put out all the different toppings so the kids can choose what they like the most, kind of like an oatmeal bar.
Topping options:
- frozen or fresh fruit (apples, strawberries, blueberries and bananas are great options)
- drizzle of honey
- brown sugar and maple syrup
- walnuts or pecans
- chia seeds
- cream or half and half
- granola (homemade or store bought)
- cinnamon
- butter
- peanut butter
Overnight oats is another yummy option for oatmeal lovers.

Cinnamon Rolls
I don’t think there is a teen alive who doesn’t love a good cinnamon roll. One of my boys says that cinnamon rolls are his favorite breakfast as long as he can have as many as he wants. It I only let him have one then he changes his favorite breakfast to something else (hehe). Made with whole grains, cinnamon rolls can be a nutritious breakfast for those picky eaters.

One of my favorite cinnamon roll recipes comes from Amy at Raising Arrows. These quick rise large family cinnamons rolls are super easy to mix up and take no time to rise. You simply mix the dough, roll it out to make the rolls and throw them in the oven. Easy peasy.
Eggs and Sausage
This can be pretty simple and quick to make. Sausage patties or links can be bought precooked and if they are raw, they cook up within a couple of minutes. Scrambled eggs are a fast breakfast option to have along with the sausage. You could also make bacon ahead of time and have it precooked in the fridge for another meat option.
Eggs are also great for making omelets. You could create an omelet bar with chopped veggies, meat and cheese to add in. Omelets are a high-protein breakfast, perfect for busy mornings.

Yogurt
Greek yogurt is a great way to get protein into your diet and good bacteria into your gut, strengthening your immune system. Your kids could enjoy a yogurt bowl with fresh berries and granola or a yogurt parfait with banana slices, chocolate chips and chia seeds. Another great option is to use greek yogurt (or cottage cheese) as the base for a yummy breakfast smoothie with your favorite fruit.

You can simply buy greek yogurt from the store or you can make your own. I’ve made my own several times and it really is a very simple process. It takes me about 30 minutes of hands on work from start to finish.

Breakfast Burritos
Breakfast burritos are really great breakfast ideas for teens. On Sunday night spend some time making enough burritos to last the week. Cook whatever meat you choose in a large pan. After it has finished cooking, add in your eggs, veggies and potatoes. Cook until the eggs are done.
A trick to make sure the tortillas don’t split when you roll them is to keep them at room temperature or even a little warmer. Lay out your tortilla and fill it with a few spoons of filling. You don’t want to put too much because the burritos won’t close very well if they are over-stuffed. Top it with cheese and then roll it up. I like to fold over one end and then roll it, leaving the other end open.
Wrap them up in some plastic wrap and stick them in the freezer. Your teen can grab one or two out of the freezer, warm them in the microwave and be on their way. These are an easy breakfast option that will your whole family a healthy start for their busy days.

Some filling ideas for breakfast burritos include: sausage, ham, bacon (turkey bacon is great too), scrambled eggs, shredded cheese, green chilies, chopped onions and peppers, spinach, hash browns or tater tots, salsa and hot sauce. You can also get a little crazy and add some sausage gravy inside for something a different.
