Sometimes cleaning can be a drudgery. Not everyone enjoys it, in fact, most people hate it. Instead of thinking about it as a chore, we can think about it as a blessing. We are blessed to have homes and stuff to take care of. I am thankful for my house and belongings and desire to take care of them for the glory of God. If you feel the same way, these cleaning hacks will help you as you keep your house clean and tidy!
1. Set a Timer
You can accomplish so much in just 10-15 minute increments. Setting a timer after dinner for 15 minutes to tidy up before bedtime will make your house feel fresh and clean the next morning. Have everyone help and you will have a tidy house so quickly. This timer is so cute and would help make cleaning fun for the kids!
2. Keep Cleaning Supplies Handy
To have a clean house, you really only need a few cleaning supplies. You can make your own all purpose cleaner or buy one at the store, and then keep it with a few cleaning cloths in a cleaning caddy (this one is great!) that is easy to carry around. Or, you could store cleaning wipes in each room so that it’s easy to grab them quickly. By doing it this way, you can easily clean up spills and messes when they happen without searching for supplies.
3. Use Baskets for Quick Clean-ups
This tip will make it so easy for your kids to help you clean up. You can give them each a basket and have them start filling it with stray items like toys, books and other things that belong elsewhere. Then they can transport those items to their right places without trying to haul around a pile of stuff in their arms. You could use this along with the timer method and have a clean house in no time!
4. Multitask While You’re Moving
Clean while you go! While you are waiting for water to boil or dinner to cook, use that time to clean up the rest of the kitchen. You could also fold a load of laundry or put laundry away. Small tasks can add up!

5. Keep Cleaning Fun for the Kids
There are a plethora of songs available on YouTube that can make cleaning fun for your kids. Or, play your favorite playlist and enjoy dancing and singing along while you work. You can also make a game of cleaning, challenging the kids to pick up the most items, clean up the fastest, or beat the timer! This is one of the cleaning hacks that helps get everyone involved!
6. Give Each Room a Day
I have had seasons where it worked best for us to clean a different room each day. This was great if you don’t worry too much about the entire house being clean at the same time. You can tidy the kitchen daily since it gets so much use, but the bathrooms could be cleaned every Friday, the living room on Monday, the dining room on Tuesday, bedrooms on Wednesday, and the office on Thursday.

You can also assign a certain task to each day of the week. This is a helpful cleaning hack because you know that if you miss something one week, it will still be there next week to get done.
7. Assign Zones
You don’t have to do all the cleaning yourself! Currently the best cleaning routine for us is to assign zones to each person in the family. Each of the kids has a zone that they are responsible to clean when it is cleaning time. Cleaning time is usually either in the morning or the afternoon. This way of cleaning makes it easy to tidy up quickly when guests are coming unexpectedly or if you just want to do a quick tidy of the house for your own sanity. Zones we currently use are bathroom and hallway, living room, dining room, school room, office, kitchen and the basement. You can use a magnetic to-do list on your fridge to keep track of the zones in your house easily.

8. Designate a Specific Day for Cleaning
Growing up we went to school 4 days a week, Tuesday through Friday. Weekends were usually filled with sports and church so cleaning day was always Monday. If my mom was gone to work she would leave us a list of chores to complete before she got home from work in the afternoon. This taught me so much about keeping a house and I learned a few cleaning hacks along the way. Having one day a week to clean will make it easy to get your house cleaned all at the same time. You can hand out chores to everyone in the house and in only a few hours (or less!) the entire house will be clean. Then you can just do a quick tidy each day of the week to keep the house looking fresh.
9. Deep Clean Once a Month
Cleaning hack number 9 is to designate a day once a month to do a deep clean of the house. I notice that while the kids do an excellent job keeping their zones clean during the week, sometimes areas of the house just need a mom-clean. I like to take a bit of time once a month and deep clean a specific area of the house that needs some help.
10. Don’t Stress About It!
It took me years to realize that we actually live in our house. Literally, we are here 7 days per week, almost 24 hours per day. We homeschool, work, play, eat and fellowship here so it gets messy. I often remind myself that if I don’t accomplish the cleaning tasks I wanted to for the day, I can always do it next time. The mess doesn’t disappear and I can quickly take care of it the next day if needed. What a blessing it is to have a messy home where my kids play and create. It’s a privilege to be able to keep a house where people enjoy being.

Even with a packed family schedule, you can use these easy cleaning hacks to keep your house tidy.
Have a blessed day friends!
