My kids love making their own omelettes. The variety is endless and you can add in just about any meat or veggie your heart desires. Growing up, a ham, egg and cheese omelette was one of my most favorite things to eat. I have fond memories of going to a specific restaurant for breakfast with my mom, grandma and great-grandma. This restaurant had an omelette bar and I loved it! I enjoyed picking from all the add-ins (even though I always chose ham and cheese). As I watched the chef prepare my omelette, I dreamed of one day having my own kitchen with an omelette bar where I could serve my family a special omelette breakfast.
What You Need to Make An Omelette
- Non-stick skillet– This is essential as you will need the eggs to come off the pan easily in order to keep them from tearing. I prefer to use cast iron. I find it super simple to maintain and I love the durability. I don’t have to worry about the kids burning my pan up.
- Add-ins– The possibilities are almost endless here. Ham, sausage, bacon, hamburger, cheese, mushrooms, onions, green peppers! Whatever you like. I use plain ol’ sliced ham. The same as what you would use to make a ham sandwich. If you have some leftover ham from a previous dinner, that works great too. For cheese, I buy the giant bags of shredded cheese from Sam’s Club. We normally use cheddar or colby jack.
- Eggs– any egg will do.
- Butter or cooking oil– we use butter to cook our omelettes in, but you can use any cooking fat you prefer.

How to Make the Perfect Carnivore Diet Breakfast
- Preheat your skillet over medium heat.
- While the skillet is preheating, roughly chop the ham into smallish pieces. I usually use some food scissors for this and they work great.
- Once the skillet is hot, add butter and let it melt.
- Put the chopped ham into the melted butter and let it cook for about 20-30 seconds.
- Whisk eggs in a bowl until the yolk and the white are completely mixed.
- Spread the ham out in your pan so its about the size of your omelette.
- Slowly pour the whisked egg over the top of the ham. If It doesn’t spread into a circular shape, move your skillet around a bit to help it spread out.
- Let this cook for about 1 minute and then carefully flip it over.
- After you flip the omelette, sprinkle cheese on top.
- Let the omelette cook for about 1 minute and then fold the omelette in half, with the cheese on the inside.
- Transfer to a plate, let sit for a minute for the cheese to finish melting, sprinkle with salt and pepper and enjoy!
