One of our favorite family recipes is sweet and sour meatballs with rice. When we went carnivore, we had a hard time giving it up! But with this low carb, sugar free sweet and sour sauce, you can enjoy Chinese food, even when following a carnivore diet.

What is the Carnivore Diet
It seems like the carnivore diet is all the rage right now. My husband and I decided to jump on the carnivore train about 18 months ago and we are so glad we did! We both have lost weight, no longer snore, our joints don’t ache, we no longer get heartburn or belch, no more bloating, depression is gone, we have more energy, sleep so much better, my skin tags are gone, my ears no longer burn and itch when I wear earrings, meal planning is simple, my nails are stronger and thicker, teeth are less sensitive, phlegm has disappeared, and more!
The carnivore diet is an animal based diet consisting of only animal products. A common phrase you’ll hear is BBBE which stand from beef, butter, bacon and eggs. Salt is also sometimes added in there as well. Meat, eggs, cheese, milk, cream, butter and anything else made from animal products is included in the meal plan. On the carnivore diet you eliminate grains, sugars, starches, vegetables, fruits or processed foods from your diet.

That’s Not an Animal Product?
There are different variations of the carnivore diet. Some people choose to follow the lion diet, which is beef, salt and water. This is definitely the ultimate elimination diet. The next level is carnivore which consists of animal products like meat, eggs and dairy, plus water, coffee and tea. After that come relaxed carnivore. This level includes animal products like meat, eggs and dairy, herbs, spices, water, coffee and tea. Next is a ketovore/meat heavy keto which has an emphasis on animal products, dairy, occasional plant food and very little carbohydrates, plus herbs, spices, water, coffee and tea.
Dirty carnivore is another level of carnivore that some people follow. When my husband and I first started the carnivore diet, we were strict carnivore for 6 months. After 6 months we started to introduces for foods into our diets and now we follow what I would call a dirty carnivore diet. This includes things like a diet soda on occasion, a bite of gluten free cookies now and then, and enjoying a bit of rice with our low carb, sugar free sweet and sour sauce. I’d say we are strict carnivore about 90ish% of the time but we aren’t afraid to enjoy some goodies now and then.

Tell Me About the Sauce
The original recipe for this sauce calls for brown sugar. It is absolutely delicious. But since it is sugar, and sugar is a no-no on the carnivore diet, I swapped it out for a sugar alternative. Sometimes I will use plain ol’ Stevia, other times I use brown Swerve which is made from erythritol and allulose.
Besides the sweetener, to make this sauce you will need water, vinegar (I like to use apple cider vinegar but white vinegar works fine too), sugar free ketchup, soy sauce and corn starch (or some kind of thickener).
This sauce definitely falls under the dirty carnivore category. When you first begin the carnivore diet, it can get boring pretty quickly. Having a healthy low carb, sugar free sauce to eat along side your meat makes it so much easier to stick to your diet.
